Cambridge Business Improvement District (BID) is a collaboration of 1,200 businesses, working together to promote and improve the city. This is achieved through a range of projects under two themes: Welcome and Experience Connect and Support. Key projects include the Cambridge City Ambassadors, The Visit Cambridge Website and PR for the city, the Love Cambridge Gift Card, our city-wide Christmas lights programme, Our Purple Flag safe night out project, the Love Cambridge summer film nights, additional street cleaning, our Mystery Shop programme and working with the office sector.  A Third BID term was successfully voted for in November 2022 ensuring further project delivery until March 2028.

 Job Title:

Cambridge BID Ambassador (1 full-time position and 1 part-time position available)

 Hours:

You will be required to be available to work 3 days of the week, including some Bank Holidays. Rotas will be provided in advance. Core operating hours will usually be between 9am and 3pm but may vary slightly week-to-week dependent on the Ambassador Manager and your agreement.

Location:

The BID offices are located in the Guildhall but the role is externally biased and carried out within the BID Area, mainly at the fixed stand in the Market Square but also in other city locations depending on visitor trends and Cambridge’s busy events calendar.

Job function:

The core function of the Ambassadors is to greet and be available to all visitors and users of Cambridge City Centre. Ambassadors enhance the visitor and user experience by demonstrating a thorough knowledge and understanding of the city and by promoting cultural, tourism and shopping elements, as well as events and activities throughout the year. Ambassadors also engage with businesses/organisations (and their employees) within the BID Area.  They promote the BID generally as well as BID projects, and act as a link between the BID Team and BID Levy payers.

Outside of the core function, the role is a fluid one that will focus on different work areas throughout the year, influenced by the peak visitor times and the many events and activities that take place in the city centre. Cambridge BID Ambassadors also work closely with BID partners and other organisations (such as CAMBAC) to provide visitors/users of the City Centre and businesses/organisations with a comprehensive service. 

Job responsibilities:

·       Support the full-time Ambassadors at the static visitor stands greeting visitors and users to the city of Cambridge and providing them with maps, guides and other information as appropriate.

·       Provide a visible, recognisable and branded welcoming presence within the City to all visitors, with coverage across the entire BID Area and specified locations outside the BID Area as instructed.

·       Promote the City to visitors, signposting them to cultural activities/locations, visitor attractions, shopping areas, places of interest and events.

·       As required, promote Cambridge BID projects and initiatives such as our gift-card at the stand and on foot around the city.

·       Be able to work as a customer service person at any future physical or mobile visitor information centre.

·       Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the City, assisting with general directing and information as requested and informing visitors of local issues, e.g. suspended bus stops and transport issues, road closures etc.

·       Demonstrate the highest levels of customer service at all times, recording all queries and outcomes as directed.

·       ‘Welcome & Meet & Greet Duties’ at key entry points to the city.

·       To assist in ensuring that key information is updated, to ensure that we continue to provide relevant up to date information to visitors to Cambridge.
