What is the Project?

A project developed by Cambridge City Council with the support of CAMBAC and Cambridge BID, Cambridge Street Aid has two aims, to help people get off and stay off the streets and to give donors an alternative to handing money straight to people.

Cambridge Street Aid works as a grant-based programme and applicants must be referred by an organisations and has assessed their circumstances and can verify they are in need of assistance.  Grants of up to £750 are offered to successful applicants.  Examples of issued grants include:

  • A new bike to get to work

  • Curtains for a new home

  • Suit for interviews

Cambridge Street Aid are looking at new ways to make it easier for people to donate and have recently installed contactless payment terminals in the Visitor Information Centre and Mandela House.

Walking through Cambridge, encountered first a number of people begging, and then a couple of posters for Cambridge Street Aid.  Decided to be part of the solution.
