Cambridge BID has been named a finalist in the prestigious ATCM Awards 2025, shortlisted in the “Best Safety, Security and Resilience Scheme” category for its proactive approach to festive season safety.
The recognition celebrates a collaborative initiative delivered in December 2024 to improve public safety and wellbeing in Cambridge’s city centre during the busy Christmas period. Working in partnership with CAMBAC, Cambridge City Council, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, St John Ambulance, Street Pastors, NightLite, Open Space Guardians and licensed venues, the scheme aimed to reduce alcohol-related harm, support vulnerable individuals, and ease pressure on emergency services.
Key elements included the targeted deployment of St John Ambulance on peak nights, taxi marshals at key ranks to manage queues and prevent anti-social behaviour, and trained volunteers patrolling public spaces to offer reassurance and care. The Business Against Abuse (BAA) accreditation was also rolled out across city venues to help staff identify and respond to incidents.
Natalie Dix, Head of Marketing and Communication at Cambridge BID, commented: “This shortlisting recognises the extraordinary work and collaboration that went into creating a safer, more supportive city centre over the festive period. From frontline medical response and volunteer support to venue training and communications, this was a true team effort. We’re proud to represent Cambridge as a place that prioritises public wellbeing and community partnership.”
Winners will be announced at the national awards ceremony in Bradford on Tuesday 18th June. Cambridge BID will have the fingers crossed for a win for us and the City.
