Clean & Safe
Creating a city that feels welcoming, safe, and well cared for is at the heart of Cambridge BID’s work. Our Clean & Safe services go beyond the council’s provision to enhance the public realm and support businesses. From street cleaning and graffiti removal to dedicated Ambassadors, safety partnerships, and rapid response teams, these initiatives ensure Cambridge is a city where people feel confident to visit, work, and enjoy day and night.
Purple Flag
Cambridge holds the Purple Flag accreditation, recognising the city as a safe, well-managed and thriving destination at night. For businesses, this award strengthens Cambridge’s reputation, attracts more visitors, and supports a vibrant evening economy. Through initiatives such as safety partnerships, transport schemes and on-street teams, Purple Flag helps create the right environment for businesses to flourish after dark.
CAMBAC Partnership
Cambridge BID works closely with the Cambridge Business Against Crime (CAMBAC) partnership to create a safer, more secure trading environment. Through shared intelligence, radio networks, and close collaboration with the police, this partnership helps reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, protecting both businesses and their customers.
Rapid Responce
Cambridge BID funds a dedicated Rapid Response team to keep the city centre clean, safe, and welcoming. From removing graffiti and spillages to tackling urgent maintenance issues, the service ensures problems are dealt with quickly before they impact businesses or visitors. This responsive support helps maintain a high-quality environment, protecting the city’s image and supporting trade.
Street Cleaning
Beyond the council’s baseline services, Cambridge BID invests in enhanced street cleaning to ensure the city centre remains attractive and welcoming. This includes regular deep cleans, chewing gum and graffiti removal, and targeted attention to high-footfall areas. By raising standards, the service improves the look and feel of the city, encouraging visitors to stay longer and supporting a positive trading environment for businesses.
Ambassador Service
Cambridge BID’s Ambassadors are the friendly face of the city, providing a vital link between businesses, visitors, and the BID team. They welcome people to Cambridge, offer guidance and information, and report issues affecting the trading environment. For levy payers, the Ambassadors act as eyes and ears on the ground—supporting businesses, sharing updates, and helping to ensure the city centre remains safe, vibrant, and well-managed.
