Public Art - King Street Mural
What is the project:
The King Street Mural is a major new public art commission led by Cambridge BID in partnership with renowned street art collective Graffwerk. Spanning 55 metres along King Street, the mural will transform one of Cambridge’s most characterful streets into a vibrant celebration of creativity, community, and local identity. Delivered as part of Cambridge Arts Festival 2026, the project has been made possible with the generous support of Sidney Sussex College, who have granted permission for the use of the wall.
Who does it benefit:
This project benefits Cambridge residents, visitors, and local levy-paying businesses alike. For levy payers, the mural supports BID objectives by enhancing the public realm, increasing footfall, and driving positive perception of King Street and the wider city centre as a vibrant, creative destination. It also provides opportunities for local businesses to engage with the Cambridge Arts Festival, attract new audiences, and benefit from increased marketing and media coverage around the project.
Project status:
The project is currently in its planning and artist selection phase, with design workshops to take place later this year. Installation of the mural is scheduled for February 2026 as part of Cambridge Arts Festival.
How do you get involved:
Cambridge businesses and residents can get involved by identifying themes that you would like the mural to explore, by completing our survey here. We hope you will also get involved by supporting the project, promoting it, and celebrating the transformation of King Street as the mural comes to life.
