As the exceptionally dry weather continues across the region and Cambridge enters a period of drought, Cambridge City Council is making temporary changes to the way some street cleansing services are delivered to help reduce water usage while continuing to maintain a clean and welcoming city centre.
Following discussions between Cambridge BID and the Cambridge City Council Street Cleansing Team, we wanted to update levy-paying businesses on the services that will continue to be available during this period.
What services will continue?
The Rapid Response Team will continue to operate seven days a week, from 8:00am to 11:00am, responding to reports of litter, spillages and other cleansing issues across the city centre.
The team will also continue to prioritise the cleaning of public bins and the surrounding areas to help maintain cleanliness in high-footfall locations.
If your business identifies a cleansing issue that requires attention, please report it and the City Cleansing Team will attend as appropriate.
Temporary changes
To help conserve water during the drought, the following services have been temporarily suspended:
Routine deep cleans of streets
Routine street washdowns
These services will only be carried out in exceptional circumstances where there is a significant public health, safety or environmental need.

Cambridge BID will continue to work closely with Cambridge City Council throughout the drought period and will keep businesses informed of any further changes to service provision.
